Focus Event

A Career in Outdoor Ministries? – Focus Event, December 2-4

Explore what it might look like to serve in the field of camp and retreat ministry. What does a camp and conference professional really do? Does this type of job require a theological education? What skills are required? Where can I find training opportunities? Where are openings posted? What can I do now to prepare for a future in this ministry? Find answers to these questions and expand your network. The ecumenical Focus Event is held annually and rotates between UCC and Presbyterian camps in the Midwest. This year it is at DuBois Center. Six denominations with formal outdoor ministry associations – Church of the Brethren, ELCA, Episcopal, Presbyterian, UCC and UMC are now working collaborative to provide discernment and educations events. This is one of those events. Check out this brochure for more information. Partial scholarships are available for ISCUCC members and DuBois Center staff and volunteers. Contact the DuBois Center office at dcinfo@DuBoisCenter.org or 618.787.2202 for details.

Remove the Roof

One of our major projects for Fall 2016 is re-roofing the Rustic Meeting Shelter. This facility is at the heart of the Rustic Village. Campers eat and meet there; they sing and dance there. It is often the location for morning BLAST (Bible Learning And Spirit Time) and hang time at the end of the day. Last spring, the interior underwent a major renovation. The “Leaning Shelter of Rustic” was pulled back into place and new support beams and braces installed. The nearly antique wiring and fans were replaced, and new lights added. Next on the agenda is the roof, but first three or four layers of shingles must be removed. Our first Work Days of the season are scheduled for Sept 9 & 10. Our priority will be that roof. On Saturday, other projects will be available as well, but if you are able to work on a roof and wield a shingle scraper – your help is really needed. Our hope is to have 15-20 workers between the two days so we can rotate people on and off the roof. Rev. RJ Morgan, a contractor in his previous life, will be our crew chief for the project. For more information or to volunteer, contact us at dcinfo@DuBoisCenter.org or 618-787-2202.
