GIRLS who CAMP! – June 23-28

NEW this year – Girls Who Camp is designed for girls who have completed grades 5-8. Fun and adventure await as they learn more about God’s creation, each other and girls who rock the world. This week, the Rustic Village is just for GIRLS – girls who play, girls who laugh, girls who run, girls who hike, girls who swim, girls who pray, girls who create, girls who sing, girls who build, and girls who… camp!

BLOCK PARTY – Recap

They came… they played… they had a great time! Youth groups from Friedens UCC – Irvington, St. Paul UCC – Belleville, St. Paul UCC – Lebanon and St. Paul UCC – Nashville invaded the Rustic Village for an afternoon of 9-Square, Kickball, Hot Dogs, S’mores and so much more. They made new friends, met some of the horses, painted rocks for a special mission and explored the Rustic Village. One group brought cupcakes to share – which were definitely a hit!

Thanks to the churches that turned out and DuBois Center’s marketing team for making it happen. “Everyone had a wonderful time… It was fun to be able to go with the youth to a non-overnight event!” commented one pastor. Later this week, check out DuBois Center’s Facebook page for more photos of the event.

VOLUNTEERS are the HEART of DuBois Center

Volunteers are the heart of strong and healthy outdoor ministry programs. At DuBois Center, volunteers serve throughout the year on committees and teams, at the barn, in the office, on work projects, as retreat leaders and fund raisers. During the summer, there are a variety of ways to be involved and make a difference in the lives of the young people we serve. Join us for a few hours on a Sunday afternoon, a couple days during the week or a full session of camp. Volunteers work hand in hand with paid summer staff to provide our fun, engaging and faith-filled program. For more information contact DuBois Center at dcinfo@DuBoisCenter.org or 618-787-2202. Volunteer applications are available online.

SUMMER CAMP: Faith, Friends, Fun

Current studies show that exposure to quality outdoor environments can have significant health benefits. Even more studies show that opportunities for kids to just be kids are critical to their development. Active, unplugged, joyful, connected and adventuresome are all words that describe the DuBois experience. It’s good old-fashioned fun and a modern classic. All this as well as an opportunity to experience God in new ways, make new friends and have loads of fun.

To find out more about summer camp at DuBois Center, check out the camp brochure online or pick one up at your UCC church. To have a brochure sent by mail, contact DuBois Center at dcinfo@DuBoisCenter.org or 618-787-2202.

SPRING CLEANING? Your trash could be our treasure!

Each year, DuBois Center has a seeming odd list of items we are collecting. If you have any of these objects gathering dust somewhere, we would love to give them a good home.
● Pool Cues: Ours are old and in disrepair. We have a table in the game room that is used by weekend guests and during inclement weather.
● Puzzle Pieces: If you have old puzzles with missing pieces of any size, we can put them to good use. They are fun additions to our stash of craft supplies. With a summer camp theme of “Peace Works” – the possibilities are almost endless.
● Scrabble Letters, Buttons & Ribbon:More great additions to our Craft Grotto!
● Glass Jars or Containers: We are looking for ones that are 16 ounces or smaller for a variety of projects.

Items may be delivered to DuBois Center or the Illinois South Conference office in Highland. If this doesn’t work for you, contact DuBois Center at dcinfo@DuBoisCenter.org or 618-787-2202 to make other arrangements.

Why Church Camp?

Because church camp is joyful fun! It is a sacred place. It is intensely relational and positive role models abound! Church camp is an integral part of the year-round faith formation efforts of many congregations. However, it is very different from VBS or Sunday School. Campers and leaders live, work, play and worship together from early morning until late into the evening. They grow together through shared experiences in God’s amazing creation and form an intentional community. They hear our faith stories in new places and new ways, and find opportunities to share their own. The activities are fun, challenging and filled with opportunities to grow as part of a Christian community.

Check out the 2019 Summer Adventures brochure and learn more about DuBois Center’s faith-building opportunities for all ages! Ready to register? Choose from online and mail-in registration.

SUMMER CAMP Spread the Word!

There is still time to plan a Camp Sunday at your church, include information in your church bulletin or newsletter, and promote DuBois Center on your web site and outdoor church sign. Tools to assist can be found on our website. There are ideas for camp promotion, inserts for bulletins or newsletters and the summer camp schedule.

Please help us spread the word. Contact the DuBois Center office if you have questions or need assistance.

Catch the “I SPY” Quilt at the Quilt Show on April 27

This fun and intriguing quilt has been on the road visiting churches throughout the Illinois South Conference. It has now returned home to Mascoutah and will be featured at the 40th Annual St. John UCC Quilt Show on Sat, April 27. This is quite the event with over 200 quilts on display, demonstrations and a Bed Turning at 9:45 am. Each year, the Happy Quilters stitch and promote an amazing youth quilt to support DuBois Center.

This year’s “I SPY” treasure is based on the popular books of picture riddles. It is 70 x 80 inches of fun created from 120 different fabrics! Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. The church matches what the Happy Quilters raise, so each dollar you donate is two dollars for DuBois Center. It you can’t catch it live, click here for tickets, then print and mail them to the church with a check payable to “Happy Quilters.”
