Don’t Forget – “Thank You’ Party Moved to March!

This annual event is traditionally our opportunity to say THANK YOU! Thank you for your prayers and support; your gifts of time, talent and treasure; and your partnership in our shared mission and ministry at DuBois Center. This year we are certainly no less grateful, but we did take some extra time for reflection before sending out the invitations. Our lives are packed with holiday commitments… with family, church, friends, the crew from work, our social groups… we often have to choose between two, even three holiday gatherings on the same night. On top of that, it’s DARK outside, the weather is often questionable and the roads to DuBois Center are not the best – even in the daylight. This year, the Outdoor Ministries Team would like to give you a different kind of gift – the gift of time, the gift of one less place to be, one less present to wrap, a free moment to… breathe. We do hope you will join us in March when we celebrate spring, new life and YOU! Thank you for a great year, and watch this space for details in January.

Chaplains – Thank You!

Our last group of ISC summer campers departed last Wednesday with memories that will last a lifetime. There are so many individuals who make summer adventures at DuBois Center possible. Chaplain - HolstAmong these are the chaplains. They help pass the light and love of God from one generation to the next. They help make the curriculum come alive for our campers. They lead BLAST (Bible Learning and Spirit Time), prepare worship, and embody an amazing ministry of presence – walking with our campers and staff throughout a week of camp.

Our chaplains are a fun, inspiring, eclectic bunch. Some are ordained ministers; some are Christian educators. Some are teachers, and some are parents and/or former staff members who want to stay involved and give back. A special thanks to our 2018 summer camp chaplains:

  • ChaplainNicole Avise-Rouse – St. Paul UCC, Columbia
  • Craig and Rev. Katie Jo Bielke – St. John Evangelical UCC, Collinsville
  • Joan Daab – St. Paul UCC, Columbia
  • Rev. Christy Eckert – St. John UCC, Trenton
  • Audrey Hicks – St. Paul UCC, Waterloo
  • Rev. John Holst – Zion UCC, Marion
  • David Jackson – St. Paul UCC, Columbia
  • Rev. R.J. Morgan – Zoar UCC, New Hanover
  • Rev. Todd Mushaney – Christ UCC, Dupo
  • Alaina Scherle – St. Paul UCC, Waterloo

Thanks, also, to the churches that supported their time at camp and sharing their gifts with ISC church family.

Thanks for Making Camp Memories Possible!

As DuBois Center’s summer camp season draws to a close, we would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your support. Without the multitude of prayers, volunteer hours and financial support, the life-changing experience of a week at camp simply would not be possible for the hundreds of DuBois Center campers. Friendships built and renewed, faith nurtured, self-confidence bolstered, nature discovered – these experiences shape lives and develop healthier happier children. THANK YOU for being part of the ministry of DuBois Center!

Bunco Recap

THANKS to everyone who turned out for a great evening of family fun on February 24. It truly was a family affair. In fact, one young man – about 7 years old with a hot winning streak – was there with his parents and sister from Zion UCC in Marion and his grandparents and aunt from Maeystown. Thanks to Region 2 for sponsoring the event, St. Paul UCC – Columbia for hosting, and all the pastors who supported it. They were there in force – playing, facilitating and MCing. Thanks to the church members and friends who organized and set-up, those who made and donated gift baskets, prizes and snacks, and those who came and played and donated food items.

Between admission fees, the silent auction, a 50-50 drawing and other donations a total of $1,487 was raised for DuBois Center and 323 food items were collected! The group with the most “players” in attendance won the honor of selecting the recipients of the collection. Uni-Pres Kindercottage received 285 of the items; the emergency pantry at St. Paul UCC received 38 items that were less appropriate for Kindercottage.
