VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for Fall Festival – Sunday, October 6

Powered by People – we can’t do it without YOU! There are lots of ways to help – serve food or serve as a cashier, catch pontoon boats or walk horses at the arena, drive a tractor or captain a boat, take tickets or sell them, paint faces or melt wax for candles, set-up before the event or stay and clean up after! DuBois Center’s annual Fall Festival is powered by the talent, sweat, love and cheer of scores of volunteers. Hopefully you already plan to attend, but have you considered spending a couple hours volunteering? Your efforts really do make a big difference!

For more information, contact DuBois Center at dcinfo@DuBoisCenter.org or 618-787-2202.

WORLD PEACE DAY – Saturday, Sept 21

The International Day of Peace, sometimes known as World Peace Day, is observed annually on September 21. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution 36/37, the General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.” This year many events and celebrations are focusing on Climate Change for Peace. A variety of resources are available – a posterpostcard and web pages to get you started. Consider creating a public or private activity related to peace or attend one in your community. Observe a Minute of Silence at 12:00 noon. First inaugurated in 1984, it is a tradition in time zones around the world. This year on Saturday, Sept 21 be part of a “Peace Wave” of silence around the world. For additional activity suggestions and information, check out this website.

“Peace begins with a smile.” ~ Mother Teresa

It’s Quilt Time!

The clock is ticking…the annual DuBois Center Fall Festival is just one month away and so is the much-anticipated Quilt Drawing!
This year, two beautiful and unique quilts have been donated. Both are queen-size. One is a stunning block pattern in steel blue and tan – elaborate machine stitching makes the back side nearly as beautiful as the front. The second quilt could have come right out of an elegant log cabin in the Southwest.
With these works of art, we hope to raise a minimum of $2,000. You can help by spreading the word!
A flyer with pictures is available to assist. You are also invited to sell tickets and display one or more of the quilts at your church on a Sunday morning or during a special event. Contact Carol Shanks at shanks@htc.net or 618-920-2904 to reserve a quilt.
Thank you for your support of DuBois Center! Join us at Fall Festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 6 to see who wins the quilts!
