Thank You to our Volunteer Chaplains!

In June and July, we served over 400 young people in camps sponsored by the Illinois South Conference. It was an amazing summer and we are especially thankful for all the volunteer chaplains that helped make the PEACE WORKS theme come alive for our campers.
It was especially fun to see “Messy Church” techniques at play at camp this summer. Chaplains led BLAST (Bible Learning and Spirit Time), prepared vespers and provided an amazing ministry of presence – walking with our campers and staff throughout each week.
Our team was quite an eclectic bunch. Some are ordained ministers, one an in-care student. Some are school teachers, some are former campers and summer staff members. Some are retired, and some took time off work to serve with us.
Thanks so much to all the 2019 volunteer summer camp chaplains and the churches that supported their efforts. They truly had a significant impact on the faith lives of our campers and staff!:

Participate in Green DuBois Next Saturday

Join the team and make a difference this Saturday, February 16, when we will remove invasive species, such as Japanese honeysuckle. Invasives are insidious – “choking out” native plants and affecting tree reproduction essential for healthy forests, so we need to remove them to ensure the health of our grounds and native species!
This is a great opportunity to move those muscles and meet and work with others who care about the environment. We’ll work to rescue wildlife habitat, support native plant populations and help ensure the future of DuBois Center’s wonderful woodlands.
No special skills are needed. Dress for the weather – layers recommended – and bring lopping shears if you have them. The minimum age to participate is 16, unless accompanied by a parent. Volunteers Still Needed for Fall Festival

Calling all church groups, individuals, families, scout troops and youth needing service hours – lend a hand for a couple hours or for the full day! Fall Festival is DuBois Center’s biggest one-day event of the year and would not be possible without the efforts of scores of volunteers.

There are so many ways to help – prep and serve food, paint faces, supervise crafts and activities in the Kidz Korner, catch pontoon boats, walk horses in the arena, take tickets, assist guests in the Upscale Resale Shop or serve as a cashier.

The Circle of (Camp) Life

This summer – in addition to the chaplains, nurses, and Sunday Welcome Team – 26 volunteers contributed 21 weeks of counseling and over six weeks of program support. They could be found all over camp – including at the barn, the craft grotto, and the office. Many of these volunteers are former campers, staff from the past decade, or both! This cycle of camper-volunteer-staff-volunteer helps to keep fun traditions alive as new traditions develop.
Paired with ideas from new members of DuBois Center’s family, we create a camping experience that is uniquely organic and uniquely DuBois.
Our volunteer counselors and program folks also help to inject fresh energy and ideas even in the most mind-numbing heat. THANK YOU for all the wonderful things you do for our campers – we love seeing old friends and making new ones!

Sunday Welcome Team – Thank You!

Each Sunday of our summer camp season, DuBois Center buzzes with scores of excited campers and their families, all energized and ready for their time at camp. Ensuring a smooth check-in process with as few delays as possible is a tall order – one made possible ONLY with the help of 12-15 volunteers each week. Our Sunday Welcome Team braves the sweaty summer temperatures with smiles on their faces as they direct parking, greet families, check heads for critters, screen health forms, catch and drive pontoon boats, operate the camp store.. and direct the flow of traffic through the check-in process.
This summer, more than 40 different volunteers – many serving on multiple Sundays – made a HUGE difference! Join Our Camp Welcome Team

On the five Sundays of camp – June 10 and 24 and July 8, 15 and 22 – scores of UCC campers will arrive at DuBois Center eager and excited to begin their time at camp. Twelve volunteers are needed for each of these Sundays, plus summer staff, to ensure the check-in process runs smoothly! Volunteers assist with greeting, parking, the camp store, registration, health screenings, dock duty and people-moving. They arrive by 1:15 pm and are done by 4 pm.
Please consider joining our Sunday Welcome Team on one or more check-in days. You are invited to wear a church t-shirt and show your spirit. Even consider bringing a team from your church! Spring 2018 Work Days

Stretch your muscles, get a little dirty and make a difference! Help spruce up the grounds for our busy spring and summer seasons. We can’t do it without YOU! This spring, we have two workdays planned – one for March 24 and another for April 21.

Service Saturday 2

Projects vary, depending on the weather and the skills of the workers – carpentry, cleaning, painting, raking and more. We may even remove or install a dock. Serve together with friends and family, and gain a sense of satisfaction.

We’ll gather around 8:30 – 8:45 a.m. and conclude by 4 p.m. each day. Lunch is provided, as well as necessary tools. Check out this flyer for more information. RSVP to DuBois Center at dcinfo@DuBoisCenter.org or 618-787-2202.
