Join us for our Open Houses

We have two open houses scheduled for April 9 and May 15 and look forward to seeing you at one or both events! On April 9, we’ll consider all things DuBois Center: our ecological focus, how to be involved as a volunteer for workdays or summer camp, and of course, our horse barn. On May 15, we’ll celebrate all things summer camp with cabin tours, camp games, a smores station sponsored by our friends at Camp Phoenix, and a birthday party for our beloved horse Dakota, who was born at DuBois Center 20 years ago this May.

We can’t wait to see you at DuBois Center!

Open House at DuBois Center

It was great to be with those who were able to be there at our Open House Sunday, April 25! The energy in the air of having a group back on site was fantastic. We blessed our new bees, said hello to the horses, and modeled what our summer cabins will look like with our COVID-19 precautions. If you missed this Open House, be sure to check out our website and social media pages for some of what you missed!

Blessing of the BeesOak Lodge

Hello and Greetings from DuBois Center!

As I spent my first days on site at DuBois Center over the last weekend, I could not help but be reminded of one of my favorite poems by Wendell Berry, “The Peace of Wild Things”, which reads:

When despair grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting for their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

I remain encouraged that in this time of unrest and uncertainty that DuBois Center offers something to our slice of the world that is always needed: rest, and the peace of wild things.

If you are interested in becoming more involved with the ministry of DuBois Center, now is a great time! We have many ongoing projects as we prepare for a summer quite unlike any other, including ways to be involved as a volunteer, staff member, or as a financial donor. One ongoing project is the office remodel, details of which are located on our website.

Lastly, I hope that many of you will be able to come out for our open house on April 25 so that I can meet you and we can celebrate what God is doing at and through DuBois Center. Details for this event are on the website.  Register by emailing DCInfo@duboiscenter.org.

I pray you experience the abundant blessings of creation and Creator in the coming week!

Hayley Elliott, Acting Director of Outdoor Ministry.

Join us for Open Houses! We’d love to see you!

We have scheduled our first open house for April 25th from 1-6pm!  This would be a great way to visit camp for a while and see what we are doing to prepare for the summer! We will have volunteers on hand to show you around and to explain our evolving procedures for our summer programs.  Feel free to bring a picnic along as we will have designated areas to lounge and relax with your family!

We are asking for reservations, so please let us know if you will be there! Email to DCInfo@duboiscenter.org to get on the list! If we fill up, we have a back-up day scheduled in May.

Rustic Block Party – Rain or Shine

Rain or shine, we’re having a Block Party and middle & high school youth groups are invited!

Join DuBois Center staff and volunteers for an afternoon of fun, food, games, contests and music. One of the best parts – IT’S FREE.

We’ll roast hot dogs and make s’mores for our late afternoon snack, meet some of the horses, and explore the Rustic Village. If it rains, we’ve got great back-up plans that may involve some mud – so dress for the weather and bring extra clothes and shoes… just in case.

Whether you are a DuBois Center camper or not, you’re invited! Load up right after church, grab some lunch and head to camp. We’ll be on the move from 1-4 pm, but arrive when you can. Youth must be accompanied by adult chaperones or parents.

RSVP by Wednesday, May 1 – we need to stock the coolers and send you final details. For more information check out this flyer. To RSVP, contact DuBois Center at dcinfo@DuBoisCenter.org or 618.787.2202. Click here for a permission form to print and distribute.
