A team from Christ UCC in Dupo, with a neighbor from St. Paul in Belleville, rolled into camp yesterday morning and got straight to work. Here for most of the week, they have a full slate of projects including safety enhancements in the cottages, screen and door repairs in the rustic cabins, new brighter lights for the rustic shower house and elsewhere, an extended deck for the chapel in main camp, as well as a number of other smaller, less glamorous projects.
Pictured are Larry Godare (above) and Marvin Doerr (right) building openings to make the Ga-ga pit more accessible.
THANKS to this crew and all volunteers that make a difference throughout the year! Watch for updates on Facebook.

This fun and intriguing quilt has been on the road visiting churches throughout the Illinois South Conference. It has now returned home to Mascoutah and will be featured at the 40th Annual St. John UCC Quilt Show on Sat, April 27. This is quite the event with over 200 quilts on display, demonstrations and a Bed Turning at 9:45 am. Each year, the Happy Quilters stitch and promote an amazing youth quilt to support DuBois Center.
This year’s “I SPY” treasure is based on the popular books of picture riddles. It is 70 x 80 inches of fun created from 120 different fabrics! Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. The church matches what the Happy Quilters raise, so each dollar you donate is two dollars for DuBois Center. It you can’t catch it live, click here for tickets, then print and mail them to the church with a check payable to “Happy Quilters.”
As you prepare for the coming of Holy Week and Easter, we invite you to use the wonderful Lenten devotional created by Rev. Don Wagner with help from friends from DuBois Center and Green DuBois. Through inspiring messages and photos, this piece speaks to those who find comfort, wisdom and challenge in God’s creation and word. With spring bursting out all over southern Illinois, this tool is even more timely.

Stretch your muscles, get a little dirty and make a difference on Saturday, April 13! Help spruce up the grounds for our busy spring and summer seasons. It’s a great Lenten discipline for you and a wonderful way to get involved and help at DuBois Center. Projects vary depending on the weather and the skills of the workers – carpentry, cleaning, painting, raking and more. A hearty lunch is provided. Check out and share this flyer.
RSVP by Monday, April 8 to 618-787-2202 or email. If this date doesn’t work for you, there will be a Green DuBois Stewardship Day on Saturday, April 27 – or call to set up a different day for your family, church or friend group!
Do you or does someone you know have plumbing skills extraordinaire? DuBois Center periodically has projects that require skilled volunteer assistance in this area. Currently, the bathrooms in Hickory Lodge are at the top of our priority list. The old shower fixtures are leaking; some need to be replaced, others need to be removed and capped.
For more information contact Shirley at 618-787-2202 or dcinfo@DuBoisCenter.org.
It’s a dream come true! Our NEW tractor arrived on Thursday. The ISC Property Committee has been searching for a “new to us” tractor for the past 18 months – checking in with dealers and local farmers, watching tractor sites online… and praying. A reliable tractor is crucial for our work at DuBois Center. It’s used to move hay, grade roads, mow, haul downed trees and other heavy items, plow snow, give wagon and tram rides, pull vehicles out of the mud and more. Our 1991 International Harvester served camp well for most of the 27 years we owned it. Recently, though, it had become much less reliable with repairs becoming more critical and more costly.
Thanks to the Riechmann family, DuBois Center is now the proud owner of a new John Deere tractor with a 65 hp engine, front-wheel drive and quick-releases for all the attachments. Not only is it new, it is a significant upgrade. Much of the funding for this project came from the 2017 DuBois on Broadway fundraiser. However, the acquisition would not have been possible without the amazing deal we received from Riechmann Bros LLC and some underwriting from the family.
