Join the team and make a difference! Removing invasive species, such as Japanese honeysuckle, is the priority for the day. Invasives are insidious – “choking” out native plants and affecting tree reproduction essential for healthy woodlands. This is a great opportunity to move those muscles, meet and work with others who care about the environment, rescue wildlife habitat, support native plants and help ensure the future of DuBois Center’s wonderful woodlands. No special skills are needed. Dress for the weather – layers recommended – and bring lopping shears if you have them. Minimum Age: 16, unless accompanied by a parent. Lunch will be provided. Buddy to Buddy Mission Experience

Looking for a meaningful and affordable summer mission trip for the young people of your church? Look no further! Bring your youth and “buddy-up” with day campers from Hoyleton’s residential programs. Help create a setting that is welcoming and accepting. Get your hands dirty with a work project, and spend quality time reflecting on this experience and God’s call to “do justice, love kindness and walk humbly.” Buddy to Buddy begins with orientation on Sunday afternoon and concludes after dinner and a closing circle on Wednesday. Registration is by church or region group, not individual. Adult chaperones must accompany youth participants. The cost is $175 per person. Space is limited. Fall Work Day – Nov. 3

Stretch your muscles! Breathe fresh fall air! Hang out with friends and lend a helping hand! Youth groups, families, individuals, and adult fellowships- everyone is invited to our annual fall work day. Projects vary, depending on the skills of those involved and the weather. Preparations for winter, stacking wood, raking leaves, cleaning and painting are on the list, as are a variety of skilled labor projects. The work may not be glamorous, but it really does make a BIG DIFFERENCE!

How You Can Promote Fall Festival

DuBois Center’s Annual Fall Festival is just around the corner and your help is needed to spread the word!
Date: Sun, October 7.
Time: 11 am – 5 pm.
There will be food, music, craft booths, hayrides, horses, boat tours, crafts and activities for kids, and more – something for everyone in the whole family!
Here’s what you can do to help promote:
–   Post flyers around your church and community in black and white or color.
–   Make announcements during services and meetings.
–   Put this link to our Fall Festival web page on your web site and in bulletins.
–   Like and Share our Facebook event.
–   Promote the event on your church’s outdoor sign board.
–   Submit information to your local community newspaper or newsletter.
–   Make it a church event! Promote attendance and/or volunteering as a church or church group.

Volunteer at Fall Festival

DuBois Center’s annual Fall Festival is powered by the talent, sweat, love and cheer of scores of volunteers. Hopefully you already plan to attend and enjoy some good food, great music and creative crafts, but have you considered spending a few hours volunteering? There are lots of ways to serve – assist with parking or greet visitors, drive a boat or a tractor, take tickets or take money, catch pontoon boats or walk horses at the arena, serve food, paint faces or help with set up or clean up! Green DuBois

Many of us think of DuBois Center as a special piece of God’s creation. With the formation of a new Conference team, we’re going to renew our emphasis on the ecological biodiversity that makes our camp unique.
Green DuBois is a new team that will focus on camp sustainability by sharing our resources with the public in ways that work around our camp season, while bringing in new revenue. The other two branches of Green DuBois will focus on active forest management and building on our existing green, ecologically sustainable practices.

Green DuBois is looking for volunteers who love the outdoors. If you have an interest in biology, botany, ornithology, herpetology, ecology, astronomy or many other facets of science, we’re looking for you. If you are a master naturalist, master gardener, or weekend invasive species removal specialist, come join us. If you’re a professional in these areas, we could definitely use your help, too. Members of the Outdoor Ministries Team, Finance Ministries Team, Property Committee, and the Conference Council are especially invited to attend.
If you’d like to learn more, come to a meeting Thurs, Sept 20, at 6:30 pm at the Highland office. We’ll sketch out some initial ideas, and start to form groups to focus on the three branches of Green DuBois. Welcome Team – Thank You!

We had an amazing turn-out for the Sunday Welcome Team on June 10! Fifteen volunteers greeted and welcomed campers and parents on the first summer camp check-in day of the season.

A special THANKS to Casey & Kris Avise-Rouse, Debbie & Mark Beckmeyer, Norma Borgmann, Sue Davis, Aaron, Susan & Harmon Fuchs, Audrey Hicks, Shelby Jackson, Wendy Juenger, Don Kaiser and Sandy & Scott Kuether. These volunteers packed a whole lot of welcome into just three hours after church. They assisted with the camp store, paperwork review, health screenings, pontoon boat & dock duty and people-moving.

The Welcome Team joined forces with seven full-week volunteers – Donna Asbridge, Nicole Avise-Rouse, Bethaney Brickeen, Rev. Todd Mushaney, Dan Schmidt, Alana Scherle, Marcus Vaughan and the camp staff to make check-in run smoothly. Many of these volunteers hail from Illinois South Conference churches; others are “friends” of DuBois Center. UCC churches represented include Christ UCC – Dupo, St. John UCC – New Athens, St. Paul UCC – Columbia, St. Paul’s UCC – Freeburg, St. Paul UCC – Waterloo, St. Peter UCC – Centralia and Zion UCC – Hoyleton. THANKS for your service. We couldn’t do it without you!

Join Our Camp Welcome Team

On the five Sundays of camp – June 10 and 24 and July 8, 15 and 22 – scores of UCC campers will arrive at DuBois Center eager and excited to begin their time at camp. Twelve volunteers are needed for each of these Sundays, plus summer staff, to ensure the check-in process runs smoothly! Volunteers assist with greeting, parking, the camp store, registration, health screenings, dock duty and people-moving. They arrive by 1:15 pm and are done by 4 pm.
Please consider joining our Sunday Welcome Team on one or more check-in days. You are invited to wear a church t-shirt and show your spirit. Even consider bringing a team from your church! Let us know in advance when you can help; contact the DuBois Center office at dcinfo@duboiscenter.org or 618-787-2202.

Service Saturday – April 21

Stretch your muscles, get a little dirty and make a difference! Help spruce up the grounds for our busy spring and summer seasons. We can’t do it without YOU! Projects vary, depending on the weather and the skills of the workers – carpentry, cleaning, painting, raking and more. We may even dismantle a dock. Serve together with friends and family, and gain a sense of satisfaction. Lunch is provided. Check out this flyer for more information.
